If you’re trying to lose weight or simply looking to start trying feeling healthier, one of the best ways to rid your body of toxins is drinking water. Yes! It’s that simple. Just 6-8 glasses of water everyday will help keep you and your organs hydrated and in the best possible health.
But, you don’t have to drink just plain water.
According to some researchers drinking a glass of water with the juice of half of a fresh lemon in it is said to “aid digestion, flush toxins as a diuretic, invigorate the immune system, energize and improve mood, clear skin, balance pH levels, hydrate the lymph system, clear the skin, promote healing, help with weight loss, and even freshen the breath.”
A natural source of vitamin C, lemon juice also helps to fight colds, with potassium stimulating brain and nerve function. However, you can add different varieties of fruits to your water to help boost and hydrate your system.
My favorite, as I like to call it “Tasty Water” or as others do “Detox Water” recipe is adding mint, cucumber and ginger in a large jar and letting it sit in the fridge. I have a glass each morning I wake up and I drink it throughout the day.
- Mint is a great appetizer or palate cleanser, and it promotes digestion. It also soothes stomachs in cases of indigestion or inflammation. When you feel sick to your stomach, drinking a cup of mint tea can give you relief.
- Cucumbers contain an anti-inflammatory flavonol called fisetin that appears to play an important role in brain health. In addition to improving your memory and protecting your nerve cells from age-related decline, fisetin has been found to prevent progressive memory and learning impairments in mice with Alzheimer’s disease.
- Ginger is a natural pain reliever, it contains some of the most potent anti-inflammatory fighting substances known and is a natural powerful painkiller.
You can add melon, blueberries, blackberries and other ingredients that are healthy and beneficial. This is a great way to get your kids to start drinking more water and stay not only hydrated but healthy. Mix and match ingredients according to your preference and personal taste.
TIP: This can be a fun activity to do with your kids. Have them help you cut the fruits.
